From Holmes County to Your Backyard
I was raised in the heart of Holmes County, Ohio, and my wife, JoAnna, in Northern Indiana. In our community, "quality" wasn't a marketing buzzword—it was a requirement. If you didn’t build it to last a lifetime, you didn’t build it at all.
When we moved to Northern Michigan in 2017, we saw a gap in the market. We saw decks that couldn't handle a TC winter and contractors who were spread too thin.
Why We "Niched Down" to Decks
In 2021, we operated as a general construction company (YodersUpNorth LLC). We were building houses and doing remodels, but we realized we weren't doing what we loved. We missed the precision of the miter saw and the engineering required to build a perfect outdoor space.
We rebranded to Yoder Signature Deck Co. because we decided to stop being "builders" and start being Outdoor Living Specialists. We ditched the general remodeling to focus on one thing: creating the most durable, beautiful decks in Michigan.
The 10-Deck Commitment
We are not a volume shop. We don’t chase every lead in the county. We intentionally limit our capacity to 10 signature deck projects per year. This exclusivity allows me to be on-site, ensuring that every beam is level and every Fenetex screen is installed with precision. When you hire us, you aren't getting a revolving door of sub-contractors; you're getting our names and our personal oversight.
